The Sixth Street Shelter welcomes volunteers. As a Sixth Street Shelter volunteer, you are offered a unique experience working directly with residents and children of the Shelter or with the upkeep of the facility itself. Our volunteers come alone or in groups. They are welcome for a short term, one day project, or are invited to make a long term volunteer commitment, or just about anything in between.
WORK WITH OUR RESIDENTS
- Plan a field trip or outing with the Shelter children
- Share your sports, arts & crafts, music, or computer skills with the Shelter children
- Plan or sponsor a birthday or holiday party
- Plan and provide educational programs for Shelter adults
- Be a tutor
- Be a spanish interpreter and facilitate effective communication
- Provide child care during resident meetings
WORK WITH YOUR HANDS
- Sort and organize donations
- Help clean up in and around the shelter
- Plant flowers and vegetables
- Paint and make minor repairs
OFFICE OPPORTUNITIES
- Social media marketing -- Ensure that social media is being used efficiently
- Work in the shelter office as a receptionist
- Clerical and data entry
GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
- Adopt -an- Apartment program
- Paint an apartment
- Do a spring cleaning project
- Design your own group project
