The Right Stuff About Renting (RSAR) is a program that seeks to educate both tenants and property owners about their rights and responsibilities in their respective roles. Misunderstandings between the two parties to a lease agreement harm the relationship and, in the worst cases, lead to irreconcilable conflict and great emotional and financial expense to either or both parties. This program encourages landlords and tenants to understand their obligations to one another while offering informal mediation when disputes arise. RSAR is a program of the Community Action Financial Services.
In 1990, CACLV published a booklet called The Right Stuff About Renting, a guide for landlords and tenants. The booklet was well received by both groups. Changes in landlord-tenant law approved in 1996 necessitated revisions that eventually led to a second, expanded edition. As in 1990, CACLV provided two versions of the 1997 edition, one in English and one in Spanish. The Right Stuff About Renting booklet is currently in its fourth edition, with the Spanish version awaiting print.
A seminar is available upon request.
