VITA FREE INCOME TAX PREPARATION
What is VITA?
VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. It is a partnership between CACLV and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that enables tax payers to file their taxes at no cost and to use their refunds for asset building.
Who does VITA help?
The VITA program helps low to moderate income working families, many of who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.
How does VITA help?
By recruiting volunteers who are certified by the IRS to prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns and electronically file them for free. Last year this VITA program served over 1200 households and brought over $1,700,000 in refunds back to our local community's economy.
Where are the sites located?
There are currently four VITA locations served by the CACLV VITA Program. They are located in Bethlehem, Allentown, Easton and Mt. Bethel.
When can you have your taxes prepared?
- Appointments can be made beginning in January by calling: 484-893-1040
- Sites open February 1st and remain open through April 15th.
- Appointments are available in the Bethlehem office throughout the entire year.
Taxpayers need to bring the following items with them to their appointment:
- Social Security cards for everyone listed on the return
- Photo ID's for all of the adults listed on the return.
- Accurate birth dates
- All Form W2's, Form 1099INT's, Form 1099DIV's, Form 1099 SSA's
- Bank routing numbers and account numbers for up to three bank accounts
- Total paid for day care plus the name, address, and tax ID of the day care provider
- College Tuition expenses: Form 1098
- Home Mortgage Interest, Real Estate Taxes, Charitable Contributions, Medical Expenses
- Last years tax return, if available
