The Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley on Tuesday announced almost $300,000 in federal stimulus money to help small business survive the recession.
The biggest chunk of the money - $120,000 - will be available to low-income business owners to pay for professional services such as Web site design and marketing, committee members said.
CACLV also has used part of the money to hire a small-business intervention specialist to work with struggling small-business owners.
"We have the possibility to stop the closing of additional businesses in the Lehigh Valley and the jobs that go with them," said Kimberly Stout, the small-business intervention specialist.
Bonnie Ortiz, who owns Gracious Ways Painting in Allentown, said she plans to apply for the stimulus money to create a Web site, work on a marketing plan and buy more equipment. She said she doesn't have any of her own money
