Dear Representative Dent,
I’m writing because I’m deeply troubled about the proposed budget cuts to the Community Services Block Grant, the core funding source for Community Action. As a concerned citizen who is interested in matters that affect my community, I have witnessed the local impact of the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley (CACLV). They consistently identify local problems and work with a wide range of stakeholders to create innovative strategies that tackle local issues.
CACLV is the agency that brings the entire community together. They strengthen the local economy with entrepreneurial training and micro-lending and work with banks to expand access to capital, thereby creating and retaining local jobs. They help make the region a desirable place to live, work, and play by building partnerships that promote ‘smart growth’ and urban redevelopment. They are there to help people who are suffering from unemployment and financial insecurity. The quality of life in the Lehigh Valley is unimaginable without the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley.
Please do not cut funding to the Community Services Block Grant at a time when so many of my friends, family, and neighbors depend upon its services.
